Robert Rettinger Military Biography

Bob was drafted in to the US Army after graduating from San Diego State.
While on leave from basic training at Fort Ord, he received a direct
commission
in the Medical Service Corps with the assistance of Robert Kauffman ’59.
[Can you imagine the excitement in the company orderly room when
Private Rettinger return to basic training wearing a 2nd Lieutenant US
Army officer uniform? It must have been a sight to see.]
He served in Vietnam in US Army field hospitals.
After Vietnam he served at the US Army Hospital in the Presidio of San
Francisco.
At the end of his military service he joined a USAR hospital unit in San
Diego where he retired as a LTC.
Bob died 2001 and is buried at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.
