Bay Park Guys 14th Annual Reunion

Last Thursday after noon we had our 14th annual "Bay Park Guys" reunion. It is just 'guys' who grew up in 'Bay Park' or close by. I think the guys are between 64 and 72 or some where about there. Back when we were kids, a 3 or 4 year age space, meant you were either too young or too old to 'hang around' with those older or younger. It was a big difference. Now it is not so much. I think it is kind of cool, and probably unusual, for guys of a neighborhood to do this, but I really don't know for sure.
There were 22 who signed the roster.  I did take a photo of each one there, but I have not downloaded them yet, so I don't know exactly the number, but it has to be close. Many went to MBHS, some of the older ones San Diego High, and I think maybe one or two from La Jolla, but not positive. Since it is not a 'school reunion' not much attention is paid to that. Some are grads from Clairmont also. Gary Crowley came for the first time, he was a MBHS '58, he did not know about it till this year. Wayne Lollis came for the second time, I think he had a really good time. I don't think he 'lived' in Bay Park but knew many of us. David Buck usually comes, he also comes to the MBHS picnic at De Anza, usually. I am kind of in the middle age wise, so some I knew well; some I did not know at all. But it is still a fun get-to-gather. We meet at some restaurant, the last two years it has been the Boll Weevil/Cotton Patch just off of Morena Blvd. I think Wayne is the only one, besides me, who comes to the MBHS breakfasts. Bill Rice came to one about 4 or 5 years ago, he knew some because he was so active in athletics. He was laughing so hard I was fearful he might have a heart attack right there. Some of the stories are really funny.
We just sit around and talk about old girl friends, the goofy things we did when kids. One guy was talking last year about how traumatized he was in 3rd grade when they had a class trip of the Cudahy Packing Plant. He said he can still hear the squealing pigs as they toured the plant. Cudahy had a packing plant near where Toys R Us, Armstrong Nursery is now. I remember the building and the cattle in the pens, but I never went through the plant. Buying '40 Fords for $75.00 -- and they ran good! Shooting rabbits on what is now Clairemont  area. Playing in muddy areas of Mission Bay before it was dredged etc.
I have lived in the Bay Park area since about 1942 when my parents bought their first  house there. They never moved away.
