MISSION BAY HIGH SCHOOL
CLASS OF 1958

What's Going On?
April 2009
...here in San Diego
One of our busiest classmates is Orpha Higley. She will be missing the May breakfast because she is a member of the Pacific Beach Woman's Club, and on "our" Saturday they will be holding a
The proceeds go towards two $1000.00 scholarships for Mission Bay High School students. The fair is their big money making event for the year and it will be held on Saturday, May 2nd, 2009 from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM. They are located at 1721 Hornblend in Pacific Beach. Click on "Spring Fling" above for a printable flyer with additional information.
There is plenty of time after the breakfast at Coco's to go to the Spring Fling!!

Every Saturday at 9 a.m., the good folks at Walter Andersen Nursery at 3642 Enterprise St. in San Diego (map) host a free gardening class, with coffee as a bonus. Next week (April 25) will cover the proper care of Cymbidium orchids. For more information, call (619) 224-8271 or go to walterandersen.com/ptloma.html.
Of course, we all know that Walter is one of our loyal classmates...but about that 9 a.m. Saturday mornings...hmmm. I'm sure he gets a temp. on the first Saturday, so that he can join us at breakfast.

Guess who was recently seen at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas!!

Nancy Albright Albright & Phill Hansen
Nancy Albright Albright & husband, Duke, have been having a great time over here on "The Continent" (sounds classier than "The Mainland"). They spent 10 days with their daughter and family at their home in Huntington Beach and then in Palm Springs. They are now in Las Vegas (hopefully striking it rich) until May 5, when they fly back to Kona.
Thanks for the picture, Phill

SAD NEWS
We have had some sad news also this month. Two of our classmates have recently lost their husbands, and our thoughts and prayer go out to them both.
Judy Sandlin Cherne sent an e-mail in which she said: "Just wanted to let you know that my husband, Milt Cherne, passed away 3-29-09. He was at home in Hospice since 11-11-08. God is good and he was ready. Lovingly, Judy Sandlin Cherne."
| We got an e-mail message from a
friend of Linda Wood Odening that Linda husband, Walt, had passed away
on April 11,2009. The obituary was in yesterday's paper and it can
be read here : Walt Odening |

It looks like March came in like a lion, and it went out like a lion too. Hopefully we will have some nice spring weather this month, as well as some April showers. This is National Humor Month, Poetry Month, Records & Information Management Month, and Stress Awareness Month -the last two would seem to go well together. The third week is Organize Your Files Week (no excuse not to get things in order this month!), but week four, National Karaoke Week, sounds more fun. There is something to celebrate on each day of April. April Fools Day is the first one. Easter is on April 12 this year, and Passover begins on Thursday night, April 9. I missed the one on April 6, which is Sorry Charlie Day. It is for all of us who have been spurned, and yet somehow survived it. April 7 is No Housework Day which I celebrate most of the year. I think I really like April 22, National Jelly Bean Day. Love the "Belly Flops" when I can find them at the 99¢ Only Store (they are rejected "Jelly Belly" gourmet jelly beans. Not perfect shapes, but tastes just as good). I think that April 26, Richter Scale Day is pretty interesting, especially for those in our area. It actually celebrates the birth of American seismologist, Charles F. Richter in 1900. He invented the Richter Scale in 1935. For an interesting site showing recent earthquakes in California & Nevada go here: http://www.data.scec.org/recenteqs/ Lastly, but not leastly, April 30 is National Honesty Day
The birthstone for April is the diamond. Here is a picture of the Hope Diamond.
