MUSICAL NOTES

Rey Vinole is back to having his Big Band rehearsals at West City Community College Center at 3249 Fordham Street in Point Loma on Mondays from 7 PM to 9PM. Come and dance or just listen to the music.

For another style, Tuesday nights from 7PM to 9PM the Dixieland Band is at the ORCHARDS, 4040 Hancock Street, Point Loma

His music will be heard many times this year. Here is his schedule so far:

June 16-18, from 7PM-9PM -- the Rey Vinole Horse Show Orchestra will be at the Del Mar Fair Arena

July 1-4, from 6 PM-10PM Show Orchestra at the Santa Barbara Fair

August 6, 6 PM-7 PM Big Band Twilight Balboa Park Concert, at the Organ Pavilion

September 17-19, Show Orchestra at the State Fair in Pomona, California

November 16-22, Show Orchestra at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri for the American Rjoyal National Championship

He is also scheduled to play at the 50th Reunion of the class of 1959 in August, A dinner dance at the Soledad Club in Pacific Beach in October, and on December 31, the New Years Swing Band will be at Coronado Shores.

GARY DENISON

Gary Denison has been attending the reunions since the 20th one, but he had to miss the Big 5-0. Gary had been diagnosed with AML leukemia and was undergoing chemotherapy and radiation around that time in The City Of Hope Hospital in Duarte, California. He wrote: "I have been through 4-4 week sessions of chemo, 8 hours of radiation; due to complications I developed diverticulitis in the hospital that required surgery." In December, 2008, he received a bone marrow transplant from his sister, who was a perfect match. Somewhere in all this he also got a jury duty notice. (Hopefully he got an excuse from his doctor). The good news is that: " I am 100% leukemia free". He also wants everyone to know: "Anyway, I am doing fine now, it was a little rough for a while, but I'm Irish and tough as an old boot." Well here's hoping we see you at the next reunion, Gary.

On June 3rd Betty wrote: "I'm still hanging on and readying for another round of chemo this Friday. Oh Joy!"

JIM YERKEY

Jim has been released from the Palomar Medical Center and is now at the home of his son, Mike, in Ramona, California, recovering from his left leg amputation. I have heard that he is in good sprits and working on his rehab. He was really glad to hear from and be visited by classmates.

PASSED AWAY

We have lost two more of our classmates in the last couple of months. I am sorry to announce the passing of Lovedy Gilbert Brydon on April 21, 2009 and Carl Alexander Ambort on May 3, 2009
